It’s true.  Bacteria are nature’s way of cleaning up the environment in a safe, efficient, and non-chemical way.  Maybe that’s why most Hungry Enzyme products have been awarded the EPA’s “Designed For The Environment” seal!

But just how do they work?  The story is fascinating!

SpectraSan™ “Hungry Enzymes” are simply naturally occurring enzymes, designed and bio-engineered to safely digest and literally transform waste, soils and their associated odors. To be most effective, each “Hungry Enzyme” was designed for a different task and application.

In the presence of a “food source,” such as grease, fats, carbohydrates, sugars, and proteins, our enzymes disintegrate and “break-apart” that food source into small units that pass through bacterial cell walls for nearly instant digestion. With a steady supply of food, the bacteria grow and multiply rapidly, continuing to generate more enzymes to break apart even more of the food source for digestion.

Technically, enzymes are non-living protein molecules that require no external force or energy to accomplish their function.  In other words, there is no need for scrubbing, washing, or elevated temperatures… and there is NO toxic residue left by our enzymes.  What’s more, SpectraSan™ “Hungry Enzymes” are never “used-up” as long as there is food for them to “eat.”

As a result, SpectraSan™ “Hungry Enzymes” are incredibly efficient, and function extremely fast. For example, the enzyme catalase (commonly found in our liver and red blood cells), is so efficient that just one molecule of catalase can break down 5 million molecules of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen…every 60 seconds!  Those are VERY “hungry enzymes”!

To look at it another way, just one gallon of SpectraSan™ “Hungry Enzymes” contains about 100 billion microorganisms… with the potential to double that population every 20 minutes under ideal conditions!

But our enzymes attack only specific chemical units. This is because problem soils, waste, food residue, grease, fats and oils all require different enzymes.  So do proteins, sugars or starches.

And because all living matter is comprised of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, the end result of our enzyme assimilation is harmless and totally inert carbon dioxide and water.

Our enzymes will not harm animals or human beings. However, contact with the eyes should be avoided. It’s also smart to avoid contact with open wounds or sores.

Our enzymes are also completely harmless to marine life. In fact, they promote safer water and healthier conditions for marine life by reducing Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), which depletes the oxygen available for marine life.
